If your website isn’t performing the way you thought it would, you’re not showing up in the search engine rankings and traffic has slowed, try these three steps to breathe life into your website and get repeat traffic.

1. Switch to a Content Management System
It takes too long to make quick updates and give your readers fresh information if you have to wait for the IT department to code and publish your copy. A content Management System (CMS) allows you and other members of your team to quickly and easily upload copy, images and videos to your site. Plus, your site’s structure can be easily changed since Content Management Systems use templates, and (even better in some cases) users are not required to learn code to use it.
(One more: If you site is all in flash, change it now.)

2. Update Your Home Page Content Often
Changing your home page content attracts search engine crawlers (spiders) that scan your keywords. This doesn’t mean that you have to rewrite the entire home page on a weekly basis (who has time for that anyway?), but there are three simple things you can to do that will keep the content fresh and attract repeat users and search engine crawlers:
a. Save a section on the home page for news updates.
b. Show blog post summaries with a link at the end of the summary that takes the reader to the blog page.
c. Show your social media updates (these can be placed in a sidebar or the footer).

3. Use Keywords in Your Content
Keywords make your content more specific and easier for the crawlers to correctly index your site, increasing your chances of a higher ranking when someone searches one of your relevant keywords. Let’s say you have a clothing store that specializes in organic fabrics. Instead of writing “We Sell T-Shirts,” make the copy specific: “We sell organic cotton T-shirts.” “Organic cotton T-shirts” is your keyword phrase.

These are only three ways to improve your site. Check back for more tips on SEO content and web development.
